Leggings for Spring & Summer
Who knew that our beloved wardrobe staple of the 80's would have such strong staying power today? The thing is that leggings are here to stay; and designers this season have modernized leggings once again, giving them a much needed face lift. They're thicker, textured and come in a variety of fabrics, colors, shapes and lengths. Architectural design, colorful prints and funky patterns are leading the pack this season. But for those of us apprehensive to test the new styles, you can take comfort in knowing the classics are just as prevalent as ever. From leather to lycra, zippers to cut-outs and flamboyant colors to neutral tones, take a peak below for some of the new versions of leggings popping up on the runways and in retail everywhere.
The Jegging
- The friendly cousin of both jeans and leggings is still holding a place in fashionistas' closets this season. The hybrid denim legging works perfectly with just about any outfit, color, size and style. Modifications to last season's favorite will be a wide array of colors and will include embellishments such as cargo pockets and zippers.
The Fabrication - This category allows for a multitude of choices, ranging from leather to cashmere to knit to even sweatshirt materials. They can be worn casually or formally, under dresses or just as an alternative to pants. Any which way you decide to wear the newest version of leggings, only one thing remains true - these leggings are statements of personal style. So wear yours with pride!
The Colorist - Veering away from monochromatic tones of the past, designers have taken great strides to step away from the expected. Leggings this season have taken the form of an artist's canvas. Expect to see visions of bold prints, vibrant colors and eccentric patterns.
The Cut-out - This peek-a-boo style is not for the faint of heart. Deliberate and artistic cut-outs on leggings are one of the new trends this season. Word to the wise, to pull off this look, it's best to wear with a grungier, rocker edge style and not to overdo the slashed look. Keep it simple by allowing for just a few strategic cut-outs.
The Classic - If you're like most women who bought a ton of leggings last season and don't want to give up on their go-to wardrobe staples, then here is an easy solution to keeping up with the Joneses without breaking the bank - update last season's leggings by opting for a different length and/or finding a different color. While black is still in, shades of gray, brown, even white can be just what the doctored ordered. |
